Development of these modern technologies is closely intertwined with human practices and social innovations. The human–technology interaction and the human role in various technologies require constant investigation—investigation that is, by nature, highly interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary and human focussed. <em>Human Technology</em> is a scholarly online journal that provides an outlet for this kind of essential research and scientific discussion.</p> <p><em>Human Technology</em> presents innovative, peer-reviewed articles that explore the issues and challenges surrounding the human role in all areas of contemporary ICT-infused societies. The journal seeks to draw research from multiple scientific disciplines with an eye toward how applied technology can affect human existence or how it can, for instance, foster personal development or enhance the research and development industry, education, communication and other fields. <em>Human Technology's</em> dynamic and forward-looking articles are intended for use in both the scientific community and industry and the journal does not set limits regarding the specialization of its authors. <em>Human Technology</em> welcomes also difficult or controversial topics, and is interested in publishing nonparadigmatic and nontraditional ideas that meet the criteria for good scientific work.</p> <p>Through <em>Human Technology</em>, researchers are encouraged to collaborate on and to explore the interdisciplinary nature of the human-technology interaction from multiple and equally valid perspectives. Bringing significant attention among academics and industrial practitioners, the technology aims at improving operations in a sustainable and reliable way, at the same time transforming human role at organizational development, by releasing personnel from boredom of mundane tasks and allowing to collaborate with digital teammates as part of hybrid workforce. Companies that have successfully adopted and scaled intelligent automation (IA), achieved positive impacts on financials, customer experience, quality of delivery, productivity, strategic goals, and reduction of frustration related to performing non-value adding tasks among stuff (Kedziora et al., 2021). The emergence of intelligent automation (IA), understood as the integration of RPA and AI, allowed intelligent ‘software robots’ or ‘bots’ to emulate actions of humas and process unstructured data with use of process mining, natural language processing (NLP), optical character recognition (OCR) and machine learning (ML) (Kedziora &amp; Kiviranta, 2018).</p> <p>In this specific research context, the special issue “Human-Technology Interaction for the successful implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA)“ aims for present novel approaches to the implementations of IA, RPA, AI, NLP, OCR and ML technologies, particularly from the perspective of societal, cultural and individual dimensions of these human–technology intersections. The perception of manual work automation has been widely studied in the manufacturing context (Ford, 2015), yet there is room for extending its theoretical and practical implications on how to successfully integrate software robots onto the team and increase acceptance for such technology by collaborative means.
